Calling for Nominations: WCAA Board of Managers
The Board of Managers of the Alumnae Association is composed of 16 members, including three Alumnae Trustees who serve also on Wesleyan's Board of Trustees. This year, the terms of office of many of the positions on the board expire. Except for the treasurer and alumnae trustee, board members cannot serve twice in the same position, although they can return to the board in other positions. While it's great to have some members return in new roles, to ensure some continuity, we also want new members who will bring new ideas and points of view to the board. The Wesleyan College Alumnae Association (WCAA) also has a goal of increasing the diversity of its board membership.
The Board of Managers meets three times a year at Wesleyan College on a Friday afternoon. The Board also holds an off-campus retreat each fall to discuss goals and objectives for each fiscal year, is frequently involved with Alumnae Weekend activities, and has hosted an on-campus Leadership Weekend. To be an effective board member, you should be able to travel to campus to attend the meetings. In addition, it is recommended that you be able to attend the fall retreat. Dates and location for the retreat vary each year.
If you are interested in the possibility of serving on the WCAA Board of Managers, there are more detailed job descriptions for each position and a survey that we'd like potential nominees to fill out. This spring, the following positions (most are three year terms) will need to be filled:
President-Elect (2018-2021) (should have served on board previously)
Vice President for Development (2018-2021) - helps identify ways to engage alumnae in meeting Annual Fund goals
Vice-President for Admission (2018-2021) - assists with recruitment of students
Vice-President for Educational Enrichment (2018-2021) - facilitates Carnes lecture series and other Alumnae Association-sponsored programs
Vice-President for Publications and Public Relations (2018-2021) - serves as liaison to Communications Office and serves as Class Notes editor for the magazine
Secretary (2018-2021) Secretary - keeps records of Board meetings
Treasurer (2018-2021) (can serve two terms, if re-elected) - prepares and presents financial statements of the Association, monitors use of funds
Alumna Trustee (2018-2022) (can serve two four-year terms, if re-elected) - serves as an alumna representative on the Board of Trustees of the college
Member-at-Large for Alumnae Weekend (2018-2021) - works with Alumnae Office to plan and coordinate reunion weekend events
Alumnae E-link Program
You are invited to participate in our Alumnae E-Link Program as a way to connect with a second year student and communicate with her via email throughout the year.
Many of you may remember the proverbial "sophomore slump" - the feeling that the excitement of college has worn off and the fear that you'll never graduate. We want to make sure that our current Green Knights of 2020 feel connected to their future Alma Mater and have support from their Wesleyan sisters. These students need our friendship and encouragement! Please complete the form below by February 16th to participate.
Legacy Scholarship
Wesleyan offers the Legacy Scholarship, valued at $15,000, to incoming first-year or transfer students who are referred to the College by a Wesleyan alumna who is a grandmother, mother, step-mother, sister, step-sister, sister-in-law, or aunt of the student. The relationships of great-aunt, godmother, and cousin are not considered legacy. Wesleyan College reserves the right to limit scholarship funds based upon availability.
