In an effort to properly document Wesleyan College's online collection of photographs, the College wants to get alumnae and friends involved with identifying people, event locations, and dates for photographs in Wesleyan's archives.
The Name Your Sister project came about after Wesleyan's Archivist Virginia Blake saw similar projects from other archives. History major, Christina Micola von Fürstenrecht '18, spent her spring semester as an intern in the Archives where she assisted Blake with the project. Taking a total of 4 months from start to finish, they first selected the photographs, then created an identification form for people to fill out, and finally created the online gallery. The gallery was launched during Alumnae Weekend.
"The project is important because it means nothing to have photographs with no identification information. By doing this project, not only will we gather information we need to catalog these photographs, but we will also be getting information about the Wesleyan College Archives to people who may not know about it," said Blake.
Alumnae and friends can help by browsing the photographs in the Name Your Sister collection to see if they recognize any of their classmates or friends.
The mission of the Wesleyan College Archives is to promote knowledge and understanding of the origins, experiences, programs, and goals of Wesleyan College and its special role in the education of women. Wesleyan College Archives include manuscripts, documents, and artifacts which reflect the history of Wesleyan.
